Optima Sea Water Pump Control
Pump Control System & MCC powering 4 x 300kW Pumps

This was the largest power system for which Finesse has had design and manufacture responsibility. A 7m long suit of panels with 2000A distribution busbars, system consisting of dual redundant incoming supply, and power distribution to 4 x 300kW soft starts for starting and running emergency fire suppression pumps, designed to deluge site in the event of a catastrophic fire.
Scope of supply included the PLC control for sequencing the pumps. The PLC provided monitoring and alarm to the control room if ever less than 2 pumps available and ready for service. Due to inrush current draw on supply only one pump could be started at a time, so PLC control software included sequencing & monitoring identifying pump availability and ensuring a sequenced staggered start, whereby in the event of a requirement triggering the 2 duty pumps always start in sequence and if either fails to start the 2 standby pumps can be automatically called into play.
