Apprenticeships & Graduates

At Finesse Control Systems, we have a long-standing commitment to developing the next generation of engineering talent.

Modern Apprenticeships

Most years we have taken on an apprentice, and we are proud of the role we have played in launching many careers in the industry.

Our Apprentice Systems Technician programme offers a structured pathway into electrical engineering. Since 2008 we have taken on 14 apprentices. They develop practical skills in assembling and wiring electrical control and switchgear panels for industrial applications, working as part of our manufacturing team from day one.

The programme is built around the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship framework. The first year is spent at Angus Training Group, with the second year at Finesse while completing an HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering on a day release basis. Years three and four build on this with increasingly complex workplace-based qualifications, and there is the option to continue further with an HND.

We believe in supporting our apprentices beyond the programme itself. On completion, there are opportunities to progress into design engineering, software engineering, or to continue developing as a technician working across a wide range of equipment both at our premises and on site with customers.

Graduate Apprenticeship

We also regularly take on Graduate trainee engineers and offer support to technicians who having completed a modern apprenticeship wish to undertake further study to University Degree level. By Partnering with local Universities Graduate Apprenticeship scheme this can be achieved with a mixture of work-based learning, Self Study and remote classes.

School Work Experience

We regularly offer work experience placements to young people from the local secondary schools. Through this we offer them a chance to see firsthand what an engineer’s job looks like. We also like to take any opportunity given to go into local schools and share about the work of Finesse and help young people understand the role of an engineer and the type of subjects required to pursue such a career.

For us, apprenticeships are not just about filling roles they are an investment in people and in the future of the industry.
